Episdoe Review: August 10th, 2012

Everyone is eating breakfast downstairs and Nani asks Khushi to give her a glass of water.  Absent mindedly, she ends up pouring the water into Dadi's glass of milk and everyone notices.  They point out to her what she's done and she apologizes to Dadi.  NK then notices that she's wearing her dress backwards and complements her on her interesting style.  Arnav also asks her what's wrong with her, since she's been looking lost since the morning and she quickly goes upstairs to change.  Anjali is heading out for the mandir and Arnav says he will accompany.  Anjali tells him it's okay and she will go on her own.  Just as she is about to leave, Mami stops her and says she will come with her but Anjali again makes an excuse saying the pooja will start soon and that she doesn't want to be late.  She is relieved when no one accompanies her.  Khushi is carrying a tray of flowers to the mandir area when some grads her arm and pulls her aside.  She is shocked to see it was Arnav who just comes to remind her of their suhaag raat tonight.  After questioning her if she's scared, he leaves with a mischievous smile.   She heads off to the kitchen where Nani asks her to make some kheer for the Janmashtami celebration.  Khushi begins to make the kheer but unbeknownst to her, she begins to make jalebi.  Payal and Nani asks if everything is alright with her as she has been acting weird all morning.  When Arnav chimes in again, asking her if everything is okay, she apologizes to Nani and begins to make the kheer.  Mami is complaining to NK about how she has to clean everything.  NK wants to have something non-vegetarian but Mami says that everything made in the house is vegetarian.  They then discuss the current issue around veg/non-veg cooking in Diya Aur Bati Hum.  Mami wonders where Anjali has been for so long and begins to call her up.  It is seen that Anjali is not at the mandir but in some social setting when she gets the call from Mami, which she disconnects.   Mami is told by the driver that he is waiting outside the mandir and Anjali still has not come back.

Nani begins to talk to Dadi when Dadi asks her if there is anything that they are not telling her as she has yet to see Shyam.  Mami goes to tell Arnav about Anjali being missing when she gets a call from Anjali saying that she is on her way home.  Just then, he and Mami hear Dadi question Nani if she is hiding anything.  Dadi says that she has been in the house for the last two days and Shyam has not come to meet her and she wants to know why.  Arnav says that Shyam won't ever come to meet her as he has kicked Shyam out of the house.  Nani tells Dadi to relax but she tells her that today she will not let Arnav leave without giving an answer.  She follows him to his room and tells him he is not the same Arnav she used to know and that now he is taking big decisions for the family.  He tells her that with time, he has learned how to take care of his family.  Dadi asks him if throwing Shyam out of the house to protect Anjali was the best decision as she is pregnant and needs him the most.  She accuses him of wanting to have her child grow up without a father like he did.  Arnav reminds Dadi that he grew up without a father because his father committed suicide and before leaving, made his mother do the same.  Dadi tells him that his mother committed suicide because she was weak and this upsets him very much that he tells Dadi that he won't hear anything against his mother.

Dadi tells Arnav that he is taking the wrong side again and blaming those who have no faults.  He interrupts her and tells her not to bring up the past again as she was the one who wanted them all to forget it.  She tells him that kicking Shyam out of the house will ruin their future and she does not want him to repeat his mistakes.  Arnav firmly tells Dadi that he will not let Shyam ever return to this house and that his decisions were right then (in the past) and now.  Nani sees them fighting and tells them both to stop their fighting as Anjali is coming home.  As Dadi leaves, Nani tells Arnav that Anjali has started to smile again and that he too should stop all this arguing.

What worked: Khushi's absent mindedness.  Khushi is worried and when she is worried, she does weird things like pour water in a cup of milk, wear her clothes backwards and make a ton of jalebi.  It's been awhile since we've seen Khushi worried about something and it's refreshing to see.  From the looks of it, Arnav has no plans to go through with the suhaag raat but will definitely enjoy watching his crazy wife and her little worry antics.

What didn't work:  NK and Mami's conversation on Diya aur Bati Hum.  This conversation just did not work.  I understand that StarPlus shows promote each other within their show but I felt this conversation went a bit too long and was pointless.  You could have added more to the show if you cut out this conversation or shortened it significantly.  I'm not quite sure how much promotion each show gets on their own and how much they get within other shows.  I just find this way of promotion a bit off, especially if it doesn't work with the story.

Highlight: Arnav standing up for his decisions.  Arnav has been through a rough life, with both his parents committing suicide and then being kicked out of his house with his sister by their own family to fend for themselves.  He's definitely picked up the pieces of his life and moved forward.  Every decision of his is done to protect his family, even if some decisions hurt the most important people in his life.  Remember how he forced Khushi to marry him, thinking that she was having an affair with Shyam.  He did this solely to protect his sister even though it hurt the love of his life.  Arnav stands firmly by every decision he makes and it's near impossible to try to get him to change his mind.  Arnav stands by his decision for throwing Shyam out of the house to protect his sister and ultimately his family.  If Shyam is to return to the house, it's going to have to be in a way that will touch Arnav's soft spot.
