Episode Review: November 13th, 2012

After all the drama settled down, Payal and Akash announce their departure.  They begin to bid farewell to family, seeking their blessings.  Not wanting to show his emotions, Arnav avoids eye contact with Akash.  The family gives them their best wishes and reminds them to call.  Payal and Khushi hug with Khushi wishing her sister the best.  Akash and Arnav have sort of an awkward goodbye conversation.  Akash tells Arnav to take care of the family and to keep Khushi happy.  Arnav tells Akash to make he and Payal are safe, he not let Payal go anywhere alone, to eat food at home and informs him of that their living arrangements have been made.  With some encouragement from NK to just be honest, Arnav tells Akash that he will miss him, with Akash agreeing and the two share a hug.  After bidding everyone farewell and taking their blessings, Akash and Payal leave the Raizada mansion.

The next morning, preparations for Diwali are in full swing.  The women and NK are deciding on which meethi to order to the celebration.  Aarav comes downstairs hearing all the noise.  Khush asks him if he likes sweets and he says he likes them a lot.  When he asks what all the noise is about, she tells him that it's Diwali and they are preparing for the celebration.  When no one is looking Aarav leaves from there as the family continues to talk about what to do on Diwali.  Arnav comes by and asks for Aarav but they realize that he's disappeared.  Arnav finds Aarav by the poolside making Diwali cards.  Arnav asks him if the cards are for the family and Aarav says that at the Ashram every year during Diwali the kids make these cards and then sell them to the public.  He begins to tell Arnav how Diwali was celebrated at the Ashram; people came by with donations, they would feed the poor, etc.  Hearing this, Arnav feels bad for Aarav.  When he returns to his room, he finds Khushi cleaning again.  She notices that something is on his mind and questions him on it.  He says that he thinks Aarav feels out of place with all the preparations that are going on for Diwali, stating that Aarav doesn't know how to celebrate Diwali.  Khushi says she understands and that adjusting to a new family will take time for him but with everyone's help, Aarav won't feel out of place.  Khushi then states that they will make his first Diwali with them special by lighting fireworks that night.  Arnav refuses for them to light fireworks, stating that the noise is bad for children and elderly.  Upset at the fact that he has a problem with every festival, Khushi leaves the room.

Later that day, the women and NK are making laddus for the evening and Nani is telling the story of Diwali.  Khushi invites Aarav to come listen to the story to understand why Diwali is celebrated.  Aarav asks what they are doing and they tell him they are making laddus for tonight.  When Aarav asks for one, Khushi tells him that he can't have one yet until after it is given as prashad.  Upset, Aarav yells at Khushi for not giving him a laddu.  Khushi tells him that she will not tolerate this behaviour of his and he throws a vase on the floor before going to his room.  Arnav sees the whole thing.  He calls Khushi upstairs and yells at her for not giving Aarav a laddu and then yelling at him.  Khushi tries to explain to him that Aarav does not know about these rituals and that it's her responsibility to teach him.  Arnav tells her that Aarav is a small kid and that she should not have acted that way to him.  He leaves, leaving Khushi upset.  Later that evening, an upset Khushi is making a rangoli.  As Arnav watches and listens, he hears her say that she's celebrated Diwali in the house before, but today is her first Diwali post-marriage.  Unfortunately, Arnav fought with her a year ago and also fought with her today, so it seems that that ritual hasn't changed.  Mami then walks by and by accident steps on part of the rangoli.  As Khushi gets ready to fix it, she states that the whole day has been bad.  Just then, Arnav arrives and begins to fix the rangoli.  He says that he's up for creating new traditions with his wife and the two share a romantic moment.  He wishes her a happy Diwali and kisses her on her cheek.  As the two stare at each other, they are interrupted by NK who yells "six".  Arnav's hand ends up slipping on the rangoli, again ruining it.  Knowing that Khushi must be mad, he states that the rangoli needs to be fixed and excuses himself.  NK and Mami then have a discussion on cricket (this is a promotion for cricket that will be airing on StarPlus).  Everyone then assembles for family prayer.  They attempt to cheer Aarav up but notice that he's still upset about earlier that day.  The family gathers around for the prayer and all take part in the aarti.  Khushi, Arnav and Aarav all conduct the aarti together as a family.

Highlight: Payal and Akash leaving.  That scene literally made me cry; I had tears in my eyes.  It was hrd to see Akshay and Deepali leave as they have been such an integral part of the show. Even though they were supporting characters in the show, they played an instrumental part in bringing Arnav and Khushi together.  I always wanted the writers to do more with this pair as they had a lot of potential but unfortunately, that opportunity was missed.  As upsetting as it was to watch them leave, I wish Akshay and Deepali the absolute best of luck with their careers and future endeavors.  I look forward to watching them in the future.
