Episode Review: November 19th, 2012

Arnav takes Khushi to his office to show her a surprise.  He acknowledges that she is still mad at him but also recognizes that she is very talented and that if she uses her talent the right way, she can go very far.  He then shows her her very own office space.  He explains to her that he wants her to head up the company's fashion division that is devoted to designing Indian wear, which will be presented around the world.  He states that he's giving her her own office as he knows that she'll need her space to work.  Khushi is touched by the gesture and remembers what Nani told her about believing in herself to accomplish her task.  She thanks Arnav for his gesture but states that she can't accept it.  She says that she needs to do something on her own in order to prove herself.  She states that she has a lot of work to do and will talk to him later, leaving the office and him very confused.  Khushi arrives at the pageant office to drop off her application.  There, she is told to fill out another form as well.  Another contestant notices her and begins to make fun of her and the way she dresses.  Just then, another contestant comes to the defense of Khushi stating that she likes her earrings.  Her name is Amrita and she too is also participating in the pageant.  When the other contestants state that Khushi will always remain a middle class girl, Armita defends Khushi making fun of the other ladies.  As Khushi goes to complete her form, Amrita states that she's pretending to like Khushi to get her to think that being a middle class girl is okay, in the hopes of getting her eliminated from the competition.

At home, the family is surprised when Arnav returns early.  He states that he came home to freshen up for a meeting and pick up some files.  He then asks where Khushi is and both Nani and Mami give different stories.  Mami combines the stories, stating that Khushi has gone with Anjali to the mandir and then will go shopping.  Just then, Anjali comes by causing Arnav to question their story.  Anjali states that she was going to go out with Khushi but then didn't feel like going.  When he inquires about her whereabouts, Anjali tells him that she went to the mandir and will then go to her parents house since she's been missing them.  Arnav decides to call up Khushi when both Aarav and NK stop him, with NK stating that he can't call her up.  When Arnav asks why, Aarav explains that there is a problem with Khushi's phone battery.  Thankfully, Arnav bought the story and goes to his room while the rest of the family wish for Khushi's audition to go well.  At the pageant place, the women are introduced to the judges of the competition, Ms. Riya Sharma and Mr. Jay, both former models.  After their introductions, the women begin their individual auditions, most of them being cut off by Riya.

Khushi doesn't like what's going on and feels that she should leave instead of being ripped apart by Riya.  Just as she wishes that she had Arnav's support, Arnav appears on the other end of the door talking on the phone.  Khushi senses him and gets up to see outside the door but he moves before she can see him.  Arnav too then sense Khushi and looks through the door into the room.  As he does this, Khushi moves, unable for Arnav to see her.  She is then called to give her audition.  Khushi starts off by stating her names and the fact that she loves to cook.  She tries to explain why she enjoys to cook and feed people but she is quickly cut off by Riya.

Today's episode helped to clear one thing up for me; this pageant is a Mrs. India pageant.  A pageant for married women.  I wasn't quite sure before but now that it's cleared, it makes more sense.

What worked:  Khushi's nervousness and uncertainty during the audition process.  Taking part in the Mrs. India pageant was not going to be easy for Khushi.  The same girl who had the guts to stand up to Arnav, the girl who had the courage to rescue her husband and the girl who has the heart to sacrifice her happiness for others.  This time around, Khushi is in a completely new environment; one where she has absolutely no experience in and where she'll have to learn new skills quickly in order to survive. This time, Khushi is going to have to dig deep in order to find the courage and confidence to keep going and keep being herself as beauty pageants are ruthless.  She has the support of her family but she'll need the support of her own self-esteem if she wants to make it all the way.

What didn't work: N/A

Highlight:  The family trying to cover up for Khushi's absence.  That was a close one.  As Khushi is off applying for the Mrs. India pageant, the family tries to cover her absence with a variety of stories and excuses.  The best part of the whole thing is that the family is naturally crazy, so it wasn't like Arnav was going to figure it out right off the bat. What's going to be hard is making sure they didn't tip him off by keeping their stories consistent and informing Khushi on their updates.  There are bound to be many more situations like this where Khushi's maternal family may also join in to keep her secret from Arnav.  It's going to be fun watching everyone try to keep a secret from the great Arnav Singh Raizada while he tries to figure out what's going on, without his usual help.

It seems that Arnav or his company AR Group may have something to do with the Mrs. India pageant.  Like he said in an episode last week about co-hosting/sponsor something with someone, I think this pageant may be that co-hosting/sponsoring event.
