Episode Review: November 16th, 2012

As the family rushes in her room, NK helps her up and they begin to ask her to honestly tell them what she is doing.  Aarav tells them that she wants to participate in the Miss/Mrs India pageant and everyone is surprised.  She explains to them that she only wants to do this so that she can do something on her own and prove that she does have the intelligence, confidence and courage to face the world.  Nani and Anjali think it's a great idea and the family is in support of her decision.  However, she asks for them not to tell Arnav anything, as she wants to surprise him.  The next morning, Arnav is busy at the office with work and phone calls.  It looks like he's planning something.  Back at the house as Khushi fills out the pageant application form, Nani teaches her how to dance as there will be a talent component to the competition.  Mami comes downstairs and doesn't like the fact that Khushi is parttaking in the competition.  She states to both Khushi and Nani that she too was a pageant girl; claiming to be the Miss/Mrs India of the house.  Nani unfortunately tells her that this competition is not for her but she protests, and begins to fill out an application form too.  Unfortunately, Mami struggles to answer the question regarding her age as there is no box for her to check off.  When Aarav tries to help her, she leaves in tears.  Nani tells Khushi not to worry and they return to their dance practice.  Upset at not being able to take part in the competition, Mami decides to ruin Khushi's plans as well.  She calls up Arnav and warns him of Khushi planning something and for him to keep his eyes and ears on alert.

Upstairs, Mami is in her room crying and NK attempts to calm her down with no luck.  Khushi then comes in to try to calm her down.  In order to calm her down, she lies to Mami telling her that the only reason why she is not allowed to compete in the competition is because the organizers knew she would win.  She then asks for Mami's help in doing her makeup as she is horrible at doing it herself.  NK thinks she's completely lost it but her tactic works as Mami agrees to help.  NK returns downstairs, where he runs into Aarav and informs him about what's going on upstairs.  The two then take Nani upstairs to see what Khushi looks like.  Upstairs, Mami does Khushi's makeup.  When she reveals Khushi's look, NK, Nani and Aarav all scream.  When Khushi looks in the mirror herself, she too screams, indicating the horrible makeup job done by Mami.  Later that day, Khushi is on the phone with Payal, talking about her taking part in the pageant and how Mami did her makeup.  Just as she talks to Payal, Arnav returns home talking to Akash, stating how Khushi has been acting weird.  NK sees that Arnav has returned home and warns Khushi of his arrival.  While she hides her stuff, NK attempts to stall Arnav with no success.

Arnav enters his room and asks Khushi why she hasn't been answering his calls all day.  Khushi states that he shouldn't have come home just because she didn't pick up his calls; calling him a joru ka ghulam.  She then attempts to dodge answering his questions, with him telling her to watch her tone.  She then receives a call and when Arnav asks who it was, Khushi doesn't tell him.  Frustrated with her not telling him what's going on, he decides not to tell her why he came home.  When he's about to open the closet, Khushi blocks his way, asking him to tell her why he came home (she's preventing him from seeing the stuff she hid in the closet).  She finally ends up telling Arnav that she is doing something but wants it to be a surprise and assures him that its not a stupid idea.  He then questions her and why her cheek is red and she states that it occurred when he walked in.  When she attempts to rub her cheek against his, she's pricked by his beard and he tells her to take it as punishment for not telling him the truth.  He then places a kiss on her cheek but is then interrupted by a phone call from Aman.  After he leaves, Khushi quickly prepares to leave to hand in her application form.  She takes Nani's blessings and Anjali's best wishes before departing.  Just as she is about to leave the kitchen, Arnav enters and tells Khushi to come with him right now.

Highlight: The family, sans Arnav, supporting Khushi.  I was hoping that this would happen and was glad that it did.  With the whole family, except Arnav, knowing and supporting her for the Miss India pageant, it's going to be fun watching how she and the family keep it a secret from him.  What lies and stories will they have to say in order for him to not catch wind of it.  Furthermore, we'll be able to see that cute lost and confused look on Arnav again.  Every time something goes on in the house that he doesn't know about, he has this cute lost and confused look; like he's missing out on the punch line of a joke.  Though, with the family doing their best to keep this secret away from him, it will only make him more determined to figure out what's going on, making it more entertaining to watch as he'll do anything to interrupt their plans and become a roadblock.  Funny times are definitely ahead for the show.  Furthermore, I really like the fact that the family is so supportive of Khushi's decision.  This is quite rare to see on Indian serials.  On Saathiya, Kokila was not to happy with Gopi working and Babbo on Diya Aur Bati Hum does not want Sandhaya to become an IPS officer.  These are just a few of the examples currently on screen where the female is denied an opportunity to pursue an avenue.  I find the Raizada family quite different from other Indian drama families.  As much as Nani is very traditional and keeps to values and rituals, she's also a very open-minded person, giving people the opportunity to pursue what makes them happy, as long as they know their limits. They may not be the brightest family at times but they are definitely the most supportive and fun loving family I've seen on TV.
